Urgent repair work
As intimated in December 2024 to members and friends of the Society, the Magdalen Chapel, the headquarters of the Scottish Reformation Society in Edinburgh, will require repair work to be undertaken to it. Following an investigation and professional survey it has been discovered that lead-sheeting covering the flat part of the roof above the Chapel Library has been pierced by fallen slates and caused water ingress.
Likely cost of repairs
At this stage, based on professional advice, we are having to budget for £7,000 to £10,000 to cover the total cost of the repair and reinstatement works. It is hoped that the initial repair work will commence in January 2025, DV.
Appeal for donations
At its recent quarterly meeting, the Committee agreed to issue an appeal to members and supporters of the Society in an effort to raise money towards covering the cost of the repairs. A member has already very kindly donated £1,000 which we are very appreciative of, and has enabled us to set up a Repair Fund. Any donation, whatever the size, would greatly help ease the financial burden on the Society as we seek to reinstate the Chapel Library and preserve the Magdalen Chapel for many years to come.
How to donate
If you wish to donate towards the Chapel Library Repair Fund, donations (marked “Chapel Repair”) can be made via the donation page on the website, or by bank transfer or cheque. For bank details, please contact the Treasurer, Mr Hugh Morrison, via email: treasurer@scottishreformationsociety.com
